BAM …. reality smacks you right in the face! It’s been 3 months, 6 months, more than a year since you got out of school and you still haven’t found that first real job?? You’ve got student loans out the wazoo, want to get out of your parents’ house and get your own place, buy that new car, take a fun trip to the beach … but you’re stuck waiting tables , working at Starbucks, or doing some other awful drudgery completely out of your field thinking why the hell did I bust my ass in school anyway? Isn’t a degree or specialized training supposed to guarantee me a good gig and the good life? What the hell?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but gone are they days where a college degree and decent grades guarantees that employers are lined up waiting to hire you. The world has changed and it can be damn tough out here. I’ll let you in on a little secret though …. opportunities abound and they are there for the taking. But now, new grads and early stage career-sters in general, have to work at it. You need a plan and, at the risk of sounding like just another mindless cliché tosser, he trick though is to work SMARTER, not harder.
