A specific process for finding entry level (or any really) job opportunities
A prior article – Finding that First Job … It’s the PROCESS stupid! Or at least it should be …. – introduces “process”. There’s a ton of info out there about process … a lot of it very detailed, dry, academic, and just painful to slog through. This is not to say that it’s not worth the effort … it absolutely is.. But I gave you the high points … enough to get you started and ready to use process thinking to give yourself an EDGE in finding good job opportunities.
I promised you a process … something concrete that you could start using immediately and I’ll deliver. Before I do though, let’s take a step back and set a good foundation. This is redundant, I know, if you’ve read my prior articles but bear with me … there is a rhyme to my reason. First, let’s recap the overall EDGE process I laid out in ARTICLE:
OK, we’re obviously focused on the “D” here. BUT, the E-Educate piece comes into play as well. In fact, constant education and self-improvement is the key to and permeates everything else but, hey, if I hadn’t kept it separate my fancy little EDGE acronym would have disintegrated, and people seem to like catchy acronyms … but I digress.
The point is that you will see things in this Discover process that bleed back from and to the Educate realm. Don’t panic … this is not a problem … it’s just the way it is. Just remember … the focus here is in having a well-defined process with repeatable steps to DISCOVER good job opportunities, as opposed to just throwing stuff against a wall to see if it sticks.
So, without further ado, download my process framework. It is a simple Excel workbook that lays out a process. Review all the tabs, understand it, and use it to your heart’s content. BUT, remember, there is no out-of-the box answer. I’m giving you a starting point – it’s up to you to refine it and make it yours.
